Match Results - 11/09/2011
Three teams played last weekend which saw the return of the juniors to action. The seniors travelled to Bray last Sunday morning to play East Coast Albion and came back with all 3 points after a good 2-1 victory. Thankfully they were at full strength with the return of the Gaa players and one of them, Shane Vickers emerged the hero scoring both goals. They trailed 1-0 but Shane levelled just before the break with a tap in following good work by Luke Connolly and Alan Pyke. However, Shane rounded the keeper in some style to get the winner midway through the 2nd half and he was a constant threat throughout the game. Simon Doyle, Niall Meldon and Tom Byrne were also excellent in a great team display. The U8s played their first ever match and got off to a great start with a 3-0 win. Colm Griffith and Paul Prendergast have put a lot of work into this young team through last years Academy and it has paid off judging by the talent on view by these young starts of the future. John Fox, Dylan Henry and Kieren Griffith got the goals and Keiren’s goal celebration would be like more at home on Match of the Day we hear. Luke Kelly, Sam Morgan, Sam Condon and goalie Emma Prendergast were all superb in a great team display. The U-11's faced a tough task at home to St Patrick's. The visitors got the perfect start and were 1 up with only 15 seconds on the clock. The rest of the first half continued in much the same fashion and the Glens were 7-0 down at the break. However, as a testament to their character and determination they came back out for the second half a much better team. Their growing possession eventually lead to a free which was superbly taken by Kevin Bushe finding the top corner. Soon after that Laura O'Toole scored a second for the Glens when she was quickest to respond to a half clearance in the box. St Patrick's went on to win 11-2 but it could have been a bigger margin but for some great defending against a very strong team. Best for Glencormac were Alison Cahill in defence putting in some great tackling and Adam Bushe working tirelessly in midfield. The U12s game was called off late when Wicklow Rovers could not field a team.
